These are the truths I learned while in the hospital after Sophie's birth:
1. A shared ward means there are no secrets.
2. Day midwives good. Night midwives baaad.
3. Whoever has the loudest baby has the biggest problem.
4. Boyfriends and husbands come and go. Nappy changing is forever.
5. The biggest sacrifice a man can make for a woman and his child is to watch World Cup games in the hospital with no alcohol. On a five inch tv. In silence.
6. A sauna has nothing on a ward with two windows that do not completely open in 30 degree heat.
7. You know what they say about big feet... more water retention.
8. Moms need not worry - no matter how much wind a new born baby generates, it will never be enough to propel him/her from the cot.
9. Love means not throwing yourself or your child out the window at ANY provocation(so this is why the windows in the ward does not open fully).
10. The question "Was it all worth it?" should not be asked of a new mom with more than one degree tearing the day after the birth.
