Warrick played with me like he was a puppy again today. We play-fighted, with me pretending my hand was another dog's mouth (note, do not play this way with large dogs) and we nipped at each other. Being the calm, cool boy that he is, Warrick would always give up with a growl, lie on his back and make me rub his tummy. I realized that with all the hoo-ha about Sophie being born Warrick suddenly took a back seat to her needs, although we still cuddled him as much as we could and his meals, walks, hygiene and all around care were never neglected. In addition, he isn't a puppy anymore, and acts like a grumpy old man around younger dogs who try to engage him in play. In short, our little Baba is a baba no more.
While I will miss his energy and playfulness, both which show up from time to time, especially when there are guests and when he senses Christian and I are game, I have come to enjoy this cuddly, restful dog. Whenever I would curl up with a good book on my reading chair he would come and rest on my legs. Whenever Christian would be particularly busy on his computer, Warrick would want to jump up and position himself between Christian and his keyboard/laptop.
As I am writing this, Warrick is blending in with the cream rug at my feet, the only way to tell him apart would be to spot his black nose. The same nose that nudges my feet in the morning, the same nose that looks to be smelling flowers when in actuality he is looking for a place to do his business. Ah, the joys of of having Baba in our lives... priceless.
